Mechanical & plant engineering: plastics for efficient processes

Even after heavy loads and countless operating hours, plant and machinery must continue to operate reliably. That means designers need a whole variety of materials depending on the application. These must, for instance, have good friction properties, high temperature resistance or thermal insulation. We offer plastics that are developed specifically for these requirements. We would be happy to advise you on the selection of suitable materials for your particular application.

GFRP tube sheet as wear plates for a heat exchanger

Tube sheets machined from Durostone® used as wear plates for a heat exchanger of a salt extraction plant permanently resists contact with the highly abrasive suspension of water, salt and other solids. The glass-fiber reinforced material remains functional with its particularly high resistance to chemicals even in long-term contact with the suspension. The wear plates with a diameter of up to 3,100 mm and a thickness of 150 mm have been machined on modern CNC systems according to customer specifications in tight tolerances.

Insulation hood for Durostone® pantographs

Durostone® UPM S13 LST consists of an unsaturated polyester resin with a glass mat reinforcement. The material meets the requirement R11, hazard level HL3, for arc resistant insulation materials of EN 45545-2:2013. It offers high strength both at room temperature and at higher temperatures. The density of 2.10 g/cm³ enables the production of lightweight components with high mechanical strength – for example, mounts on the bogie for pantographs (shoebeams), covers and spark extinguishing chambers.

Heat insulating materials

With their high thermal insulation, our Glastherm® heat insulating systems help to reduce the energy demand and hence the energy costs of your machines. Typical applications include hydraulic wood and plastic presses, tool and mould construction, tyre presses and rubber processing.

Hydroma® Quality Cutting Boards

Wherever the cutting of soft materials is involved, Röchling Hydroma® is present – be it as an initial equipment provider for cutting machine construction or for replacement demands. Hydroma® Quality Cutting Boards are available for all cutting machine makes, cutting processes and tools, e.g. swing-arm cutting machines, bridge-type cutting machines, travelling-head cutting machines, roller and bridge-type cutting presses.

Gears, worm gears and sprockets

Gears, worm gears and sprockets made from our materials have been used successfully in many machines and systems for many years. The use of technical plastics significantly reduces cost. Less downtime due to maintenance and longer service lives of all components is just as beneficial as the low lubricant requirements and low vibration and noise.

Pile helmets

Pile helmets made of our material Lamigamid® 450N offer perfectly matched toughness and strength. Lamigamid® 450N absorbs shocks and vibrations. Excellent damping behaviour noticeably reduces noise pollution for machine operators and for the environment. Lamigamid® 450N has a service life that is approximately two to five times longer than conventional liner materials. That results in a long service life of the buffers.

Support plates and support plate pads

Cranes and construction machines have to be secure and stable. Lamigamid® support plates are light, stable and have a low impact on the ground. Even at high impact loads, the plastic plates remain dimensionally stable. Support plates made of Lamigamid® are used at support pressures of 250kN to 1,500kN. Heavy-duty support plates are made of Lamigamid® 300, Lamigamid® 310 or Lamigamid® 400. We supply support plates complete with assembly material according to the customers’ requirements – both for permanently mounted and removable versions.

Castors

Castors -Castors made of our materials Sustamid® 6G and Lamigamid® machined within tight tolerances are subject to less wear than steel because of their excellent abrasion resistance and high mechanical strength and toughness, are low-maintenance and thus make for a very long servicelife. We would be happy to advise and support you in selecting materials, designing and performing stress computations.

Covers made of Sustavacu® 6 GF

With its high mechanical strength and rigidity our deep-drawable, glass fiber reinforced material Sustavacu® 6 GF is used for example as tubs, hoods, cladding and covers in mechanical and plant engineering.
